Knowing The Important Signs And Symptoms Of Diabetes

There are many symptoms of diabetes that people overlook. They assume the symptoms are just a sign of getting older. Learning how to differentiate between the signs of aging and diabetes can be difficult; however, you can learn to distinguish between the two. The following article will teach you what to look for. If you are exhibiting any of the following symptoms, a trip to your physician may be in order.

One of the most common symptoms of diabetes is the urge to urinate often. While there are many causes of frequent urination, undiagnosed diabetes ranks among the top causes for frequent urination. Frequent urination can be defined as having to go more than 8 times each day. Additionally, if the need for urination wakes you up during the night, you have frequent urination. If you are having frequent urination, contact your doctor.

Another sign of diabetes is excessive thirst. Excessive can be defined as a thirst that cannot be quenched by drinking fluids. If you are having excessive thirst, try to relieve it by drinking a full glass of water every two hours. If this does not help alleviate your thirst, it is time to contact your physician.

Although most people would love to lose weight, rapid weight loss can be a sign that something is going on in your body. Rapid weight loss that occurs without dieting is often one of the symptoms that make people rush to the doctor. Unexplained rapid weight loss can be defined as losing more than 3 pounds within a week.

Excess fatigue or weakness in your body is a sign of diabetes. This type of fatigue can be defined as fatigue that keeps you from carrying out your day to day activities. Weakness in your hands can cause you to accidentally drop things when you grasp items. If you are feeling excessively tired or weak, contact your doctor immediately.

Numbness or tingling in your feet, legs or hands is often a sign of diabetes. This tingling sensation is actually peripheral neuropathy. Peripheral neuropathy is a burning tingling sensation that causes the patient to feel pain along with tingling and numbness.

Blurred or double vision is another sign of diabetes. If you notice that you can no longer focus on an item, it could simply be that you need glasses. However, if blurred or double vision happens overnight or very quickly, it may be a sign that something else is going on. This is especially true if you have other symptoms happening. If you notice a marked change in your vision, schedule an appointment with an optometrist as well as an appointment with your primary care physician.

Lastly, if you notice that you are getting more bruises than normal, it is time to visit your physician. Bruising easily can be a sign of diabetes. Bruising occurs when blood pools underneath your skin. Anytime you notice excessive bruising, you should visit your physician to find out the underlying causes.

Many of the symptoms associated with diabetes mimic the effects aging can have on the body. If your symptoms seem to come on quickly or they interfere with your daily activities, it is time to call the doctor. A simple blood test can help rule out many conditions, including diabetes. If you do find out that you have diabetes, many times it can be treated with simple changes to your diet along with healthy exercise.
